Changing children's lives.
The Observatory School is seeking an exceptional teacher to join our Leasowe Campus on a full-time, permanent basis. The age range of Leasowe is 5 to 12.
We are a specialist school for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and we are looking for a teacher who can work across the curriculum, bringing strong classroom practice, flexibility, creativity and an unwavering belief that every child can make progress.
You may have a particular subject specialism, but what matters most to us is your ability to build relationships, understand behaviour as communication, maintain high expectations and adapt teaching to meet the needs of individual pupils.
Our children do not need teachers who simply deliver lessons. They need adults who understand them, advocate for them and create the conditions in which they can feel safe enough to learn.
The role
Working at our Leasowe Campus, you will:
-Teach across the curriculum according to the needs of pupils and the campus.
-Plan and deliver engaging, ambitious and appropriately adapted learning.
-Develop strong, consistent relationships with young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
-Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral colleagues, leaders, families and external professionals.
-Contribute to pupils¿ academic progress alongside their regulation, personal development and preparation for adulthood.
-Apply trauma-informed, relational and regulation-based approaches consistently within your classroom practice.
-Play an active part in the wider development of the campus and school.
For candidates with the appropriate experience, expertise and ambition, there may also be the opportunity to take on subject leadership responsibilities attracting a TLR2a, in curriculum areas identified by the school.
Our Trauma-Informed Induction Programme
All teachers joining The Observatory School undertake a structured programme of professional development designed to develop the specialist knowledge and practice required to work successfully within our provision.
For the first year of appointment, the successful candidate will receive a TLR3 payment of £727 in recognition of the additional professional responsibilities associated with completing our Trauma-Informed Induction Programme.
This programme forms an important part of how we develop staff and establish a shared understanding of regulation, relationships, safeguarding, trauma and effective teaching for pupils with SEMH needs.
Who are we looking for?
We are interested in hearing from teachers who:
-Are qualified teachers with strong classroom practice.
-Have high expectations of children regardless of their starting points or previous experiences.
-Can teach flexibly across a range of curriculum areas.
-Understand, or are keen to develop their understanding of, SEMH and trauma-informed education.
-Can remain calm, consistent and reflective when faced with challenging situations.
-Understand that behaviour has context and meaning, while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
-Are prepared to work collaboratively as part of a highly committed multidisciplinary team.
-Want to make a tangible difference to children whose experience of education may previously have been difficult.
Experience within a special school or SEMH provision would be valuable, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in excellent mainstream teachers who have the right values, aptitude and willingness to learn.
Why The Observatory School?
The Observatory School is a growing specialist provision serving children and young people with complex SEMH needs across Wirral.
Our work is driven by three core priorities:
Regulation | Enhanced Safeguarding | Preparation for Adulthood
We believe that getting these things right creates the foundation from which meaningful learning and progress can take place.
Joining us means becoming part of a school that is ambitious for its pupils, prepared to challenge conventional practice and committed to developing approaches that respond to the children actually in front of us.
We expect a great deal from our staff, but we invest heavily in them too. You will receive specialist training, professional development and support to develop your practice within a complex and rewarding area of education.
Most importantly, this is an opportunity to do work that matters.
If you are looking for an ordinary teaching job, this may not be it.
If you want to work somewhere that will challenge your thinking, develop your practice and give you the opportunity to genuinely change children's lives, we would very much like to hear from you.
